This enormous residence is home to a family of six, or twelve if we include the dogs and cats!, but its interior is all about gathering. Maddalena Minerva, the interior designer, was eager to include home comforts such as old carpets, luxurious leather seats, and rich woods. Using rustic oak tops, deVOL Bum Stools and Chairs, and an elegant solid oak Peg Leg Table, the warmth of the beams was extended into the kitchen. This deVOL design incorporates an innovative “split” leg joint that is extremely sturdy and allows the table to be constructed without adhesive.
For the cabinetry, a wonderfully dark green was used; this color matches beautifully with old brass hardware and has a way of making furniture appear instantly timeless. We I adore the choice of dark floors, large limestone tiles from company, Floors of Stone. Its somewhat weathered appearance suggests that they have been there for decades.
An odd spot was the ideal place for a small walk-in pantry, allowing the rest of the kitchen to be kept uncluttered and devoid of cumbersome storage.
Quarry tiles are usually our first choice in these sorts of spaces since they are robust, useful, and incredibly attractive. It’s wonderful that they opted to utilize them in the boot room as well, running them all the way up the stairs. The terracotta is especially beautiful when combined with Clerkenwell Blue cabinets and paneling. As you might expect, a house of six means there is always an abundance of coats, hats, scarves, and shoes, so this needed to be a space that could withstand a lot of wear.
